12 Tips To Be Safe Around Dogs

Well-mannered, joyful dogs can bring a lot of positive elements to people's life. Besides friendship, happiness, and physical activities, dogs help us teach kids about responsibilities and taking care of other people. Most dogs become ideal pets.
However, there are instances where threats and annoyance are from some dogs for their nature is to defense and bite.
It is best to know about these simple etiquettes to avoid being attacked by dogs in order to keep them safe for human.
1. Ask for allowance
Always make sure that you’re allowed by the owners to pet or touch their dog. Let the dog sniffs the back of your hand first.
Whenever being approached by a strange dog, you need to be still, relax your arms along your body and avoid starring at the dog.
Most of the time, we see friendly, enthusiastic dogs in public but be careful with stubborn, timid or uncomfortably and unfriendly waving motion of their tails.
2. Don’t drive a dog to a corner
Every dog has an instinct of personal space, so it is important to watch their body language while approaching (or when the dog approaches you).
Their natural instinct is to chase and catch, if you run, he will chase after you. Therefore, watch out for his expressions and don’t turn your back to him. If you feel threatened, remain calm, face him, do not stare, then leave slowly out of that space.
3. Don’t approach a dog inside a cab or being leashed
Dogs can become defensive for their territory and can bark more rudely than usual. When a dog is being leashed, they know they can’t run so the only way to defend is to fight.
4. Don’t touch dogs when they are sleeping
To avoid baulking a dog or making it startle, don’t approach or touch it when it is sleeping or it is holding something tight or is with its puppies.
5. Don’t interfere a fight
Don’t even think about it. Don’t interfere or stand in between for they can be shockingly aggressive.
6. Live them alone to eat
No matter if they are eating their meal, chewing their stick or favorite toy (especially a very dear and beloved toy), just leave them alone for some of the dogs can be startled or feel threatened and they can cause you danger.
7. Don’t play tug-of-war with strange dogs
This might teach them to jump, bite and become more aggressive gradually.
8. Don’t cross a fence or obstacle to pet or touch a strange dog
When a dog is inside of the house,  he will be suspicious with anything that is trying to get in or approach it, because he assumes it to be his home or territory. You can only cross the fence to approach him when his owner is there to calm him down.
9. Never to make fun, tease, chase after or harass a dog
If being teased or mistreated, a dog can attack and fight back. In Normal, Oklahoma, it is illegal to make ugly and teasing faces at dogs. Violators can be arrested, charged or put to jail or even both. In Beebe River, New Hampshire, children are forbidden to make fun of or harass dogs.
10. Don’t approach a dog or any other animal that is injured
If you want to help an injured dog, you should calmly approach him with a remote leash, keep your distance, slowly get to know him (step 1) then give him some first-aids.
If you’re not equiped to give him firsr-aids or if he is still shocked and aggressive, you can take the leash and walk him to the vet. Or you can contact the Animal Service, tell them the details about his injures, they will come with tools and equipments to help him.
12. Don’t approach his property
Don’t approach a property of an owner, especially in front of a dog when you are not with its owner. Dogs can be defensive about their territory and also about their owner.
