1. Marutaro – 2,6 millions followers

The best-known among many dog Instagram accounts nowadays is MaruTaro – the pup with his lovely eye smiles. Born on 20^th October 2007 in Japan, Maru’s owner loved him so much that he decided to capture all the cute moments of Maru in photos, clips and posted them on Instagram. Shinjiro Ono, Maru’s owner told the story of how they met in an interview: “I saw him when I was walking by a pet store near a shopping center. Oh dear, there was a little chubby Shiba in there (laughs). Right at the first sight, my wife decided to name him ‘Maru’ before bringing him home”.

MaruTaro, a typical Shiba Inu, a breed originated from Japan, has an enviably comfortable and enjoyable life. His favorite daily activity is taking a nap with his stuffed Polar seal friend. “Calm, like he is always lost in his own thoughts. Maru is not like other Western dogs, who always want to hang with their owners. Maru does want to spend time walking on his own, I always allow him to freely play outdoors”, said Mr. Ono.

Maru is also known as “the lazy pup” because his ultimate hobby is not being fed or going for a walk, it’s spending hours a day sleeping.

A photo book featuring Maru was published by Kadokawa company on 13^th June 2008. Photos were chosen carefully, capturing Maru blending in, having fun at Flowers Festivals. In spite of his laziness, MaruTaro is loved for his friendliness and sunshine smile.

Marnie was saved by PETA in 2012. When being discovered, Marnie was very ill, extremely smelly and his left eye was blind. After months of medical treatment and care, Marnie has been adopted by a kind-hearted owner.
