Many people have considered that dogs are human's best friend. The reason that makes people love dogs is its featured characters. Dogs are loyal, honest and because they act silly sometimes such as watching their owner, waving their tails, hidden behind you, etc.
But have you ever wondered what do these gestures mean?
Not everyone understands the meanings behind these gestures.

1. Why dogs wave their tails when seeing us going out?
Dogs and dolphins, gorillas and parrots, they are alike for one ability: they are able to guess the owner's wishes by quickly learning the body language. For example, Chaser is known as the most intelligent dog in the world that could understand more than 1000 words.
The researchers see that Chaser is able to do "quick connection" and "inference" to study the owner's command. This is similar to the way children obtain knowledge quickly by guessing the meaning of words and matching them with facial expressions or body gestures.
That's why when they know you are about to go out, they immediately think about the happy experiences when you walked them outside. Therefore, waving their tails is to show their feelings.
2. Why do dogs yawn after their owner yawns?
Dogs could be influenced by their owner yawns just like the way human does. This is a phenomenon called “contagious yawning”.
A study about the spread of emotions has shown that this is a very common phenomenon. Dogs yawn after their owner yawns to identify the owner feelings which are a kind of sympathy.
The researchers said that dogs also show their sympathy to people who are in the bad mood. Dogs could feel whenever their owner is angry and respond with some approximate reactions.
Another research has shown that dogs also feel sorry when seeing a baby crying and at that time they show their sympathy by licking the baby's face.
3. Why do dogs always watch us?
The scientists have done an examination to answer this question. They took some pictures of dog's facial emotions and matched them with the correlative dog barks. Then they let another dog watching those pictures and sounds. The scientists realized that whenever the picture with the matching dog barks (pictures of angry emotion with angry dog barks) was played, the dog will focus on it for a long time.
In other words, when a dog keeps watching you, meaning they are catching your emotions and observe your emotion changes. That’s why when we smile, when we angry or when we touch their head, they are always watching us in silence.
4. Why do dogs always smell their owner’s friends?
Just an animal thing that dog do for survival. Animal instincts motivate dog to collect information around them by sniffing.
There are some researches have shown that dogs love people who have the same smell with their owner. It’s said that when dogs realize someone has the similar smell to their owner, their brain will associate it with foods because they thought their owners will give them foods.
This research proves that dogs have a good sense of smell and how important their owners are in their life. The smell of the owner is the most important thing to them and is the only thing that makes them feel safe.
5. Why do dogs love hidden behind their owner?
The relationship between dogs and human is just as the parent toward the child. Meaning, similar to horses or cats that always run away when being threatened, dog facing the same situations by always hide behind their owners.
Why does this happen? When dogs were young, they run to their parent whenever they are under threat. It means the owner is regarded to their parents and that makes dogs always hide behind the owners when being threatened.
